Yes. As of October 2026, Meta AI makes short AI-generated videos for free in the Meta AI app, on meta.ai and in the standalone Vibes app. You can describe a clip, animate a generated or uploaded photo, add yourself or a friend, restyle, edit or extend a video, add music, lip sync or a voiceover, and remix other people's vibes. Uploaded videos for editing are capped at 10 seconds, and Meta doesn't publish a fixed length for generated clips. Meta One Core ($7.99 a month) and Premium ($19.99) add more generation. Availability varies by country, and anything you post to the feed is public.
This guide is for creators and marketers on Instagram and Facebook who want to know whether Meta AI can replace a video tool. It covers what Meta AI's video features are, which model is behind them, plans and prices, length and audio, a step-by-step walkthrough, remix and privacy rules, regions and age limits, labels, why a vibe isn't a finished Short, a comparison with five other assistants and a workflow to a captioned, published Short. Facts are stated as of October 2026 and come from Meta's own pages wherever Meta has published them.

What Is Meta AI's Video Generator?
Meta AI's video generator is a set of creation tools spread across a few surfaces rather than one product. These are the terms you'll see:
- Meta AI: Meta's assistant, available in the Meta AI app, on meta.ai and inside Meta's other apps.
- Vibes: a feed of short AI-generated videos that Meta launched inside the Meta AI app and on meta.ai on September 25, 2025, where you create, remix and share clips.
- The Vibes app: a standalone app, “Vibes - AI Video Creation”, that Meta began testing in February 2026 and that Google Play now describes as “a new Meta AI app”.
- Restyle: an editing tool that regenerates a video with preset moods, locations, outfits or styles.
- Muse Video: Meta Superintelligence Labs' own video model, shown as an early preview in July 2026.
- Muse: a separate personal AI agent Meta launched in the US on September 8, 2026 (TechCrunch); despite the shared name, it isn't the video model.
Meta's launch post described Vibes as an early preview where you can start from scratch, work with content you already have or remix a video from the feed, then add visuals, layer in music and adjust styles. Finished vibes can go to the Vibes feed, to friends by direct message, or to Instagram and Facebook Stories and Reels (Meta Newsroom). The standalone app's Google Play listing adds lip sync to trending songs, adding yourself and friends, and editing and restyling with presets, and notes that some features are only available in select countries and languages (Google Play).
Restyle arrived before Vibes. Meta launched AI video editing on June 11, 2025 with more than 50 presets for 10-second videos in the Meta AI app, on meta.ai and in Edits, Instagram's video editing app (TechCrunch). It now sits next to Edit and Extend in Meta AI's video editing options.
Which AI Model Does Meta AI Use for Video?
Meta hasn't published which model generates today's vibes, and the answer has changed over the past year. When Vibes launched, Meta's chief AI officer Alexandr Wang said the company had partnered with Midjourney and Black Forest Labs for the early version while Meta developed its own models (TechCrunch).
Meta's own model arrived in 2026. On July 7, 2026, Meta Superintelligence Labs introduced Muse Image and an early preview of Muse Video, describing the video model as having native audio, reporting that it ranked third for text-to-video in human-preference Elo on Arena at the time, and naming audio-video synchronization and physically accurate fast motion as gaps it is still working on. Meta said Muse Video was “coming soon to creators and Meta AI” and published no length, resolution or price (AI at Meta). Two months later, Meta's subscription announcement described paid plans that include generating videos powered by Muse models, so treat Muse as the direction of travel without a public spec sheet yet.
Movie Gen is the name you may remember from older articles. Meta announced it on October 4, 2024 as a research model that generated videos of up to 16 seconds at 16 frames per second, alongside a model for sound effects and music, and said only that it was moving toward a potential future release (AI at Meta). Meta hasn't offered Movie Gen as a product you can choose by name; Restyle was described as inspired by it.
Is Meta AI Video Generation Free?
Yes, basic video generation is free. Meta's Vibes page is titled “Generate free AI videos” (AI at Meta), and Meta says the core experience across its apps and Meta AI stays free. What changed in September 2026 is that Meta started selling more of it. Meta One, announced on September 15, 2026, adds Core at $7.99 a month, which lets you generate more images and videos with Meta AI, and Premium at $19.99 a month, which offers the most room to create; both include more use of in-app tools such as Restyle on Instagram (Meta Newsroom).
| Plan | Price (US) | Video generation | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | Yes, with usage limits Meta doesn't publish | Meta AI app, meta.ai and the Vibes app |
| Meta One Core | $7.99/month | More image and video generation | Rolling out gradually; varies by region, app and account |
| Meta One Premium | $19.99/month | Expanded monthly AI allowance with advanced image and video models | In limited testing; billed through the App Store or Google Play |
| Creator and business bundles | From $14.99/month | Not specified for video | Essential, Advanced, Expert and Max tiers |
Meta doesn't publish numeric limits for any tier, so you can't compare plans by the number of clips. The Premium help page describes an expanded monthly AI usage allowance and says the subscription is in limited testing and isn't available everywhere yet (Meta Help Center). Earlier, in February 2026, Meta had told TechCrunch it planned freemium access to Vibes video creation, with a subscription for more creation each month (TechCrunch). If you only make a few clips a week, the free tier is the sensible place to start.
How Long Are Meta AI Videos?
Short, and Meta doesn't publish an exact figure. Meta's help center gives no length, aspect ratio or resolution for generated vibes. The one documented number is for editing: when you upload a video to edit with Meta AI or Vibes, the maximum length is 10 seconds, and longer uploads must be trimmed with the clip brackets (Meta Help Center). Generated videos also have an Extend option, so a clip can grow beyond its first generation, but each vibe is still a single short scene.
Audio is something you add rather than something every clip has. The help pages describe a Music button for adding a track and options to make images or videos sing, speak or carry a background voiceover, and Meta lists native audio as a Muse Video capability. Meta doesn't document captions or subtitles for vibes, so plan to add them elsewhere if your audience watches on mute.
Vibes are made for a phone feed and for cross-posting to Stories and Reels, which use full-screen vertical video. Our Instagram Reels size guide lists the exact specs if you plan to finish a clip in another editor.
How to Make a Video With Meta AI, Step by Step
Step 1: open the Meta AI app, meta.ai or the Vibes app and sign in. Some features are only available in select countries and languages, so your menu may look different.
Step 2: start from a prompt or a photo. Type a description of the scene, create an image first with a prompt that starts with “imagine” or “create an image”, or tap Upload to use your own photo and write a prompt that starts with “Animate”.
Step 3: animate. Open a generated image, tap Animate and describe the motion, or send without a prompt for a default animation. You'll get a notification when the video is ready, which can take a few minutes (Meta Help Center).
Step 4: refine. Use Edit to regenerate from a new, more detailed prompt, Extend to lengthen the clip, or Restyle to apply preset moods, locations or outfits. Meta's help pages note that edits look better on footage without fast movement.
Step 5: add sound. Tap Music to add a track, or use the lip sync and voice options to make a character sing, speak or narrate.
Step 6: post or share. Posting sends the vibe to the public Meta AI and Vibes feeds, and Share sends it to other apps, including Instagram and Facebook Stories and Reels.
What Happens When You Post a Vibe? Remixing, Likeness and Privacy
Everything you post to the feed is public. Meta's help center says posts on Meta AI and Vibes are public and also appear in search results and on your profile (Meta Help Center). Other people can remix your vibes by changing the music, the image or the animation prompt, or by swapping a person in. You can add one person to a vibe, including yourself, and if your “Who can add you to media” permission is set to Only Me, vibes featuring your likeness can't be remixed (Meta Help Center).
Meta's AI terms add two practical rules: you must have permission from anyone shown in media you upload, and you're responsible for how you use outputs. The terms, effective May 13, 2026, don't spell out who owns generated videos or whether you can use them commercially (Meta AI Terms). If you plan to use a vibe in an ad or a client project, read the current terms first.
Who Can Use Meta AI Video? Regions and Age Limits
Not everyone, and Meta's rules are spread across several pages. Meta's help center says the Meta AI and Vibes apps and websites are not yet available everywhere and that features vary by area. Vibes reached Europe on November 6, 2025, when Meta launched the Meta AI app there with the Vibes feed (Meta Newsroom), and the Muse agent is US-only for now.
On age, Meta's AI terms say you can't use its AIs if you're under 13, or older where local law requires. Meta's help center lists extra limits on posting, commenting, liking and remixing vibes for teens in Tennessee and Puerto Rico (Meta Help Center). In September 2026, adult users on Google Play quoted an in-app message saying teens under 18 can no longer use Vibes. Meta hasn't published a policy explaining that gate, so expect age checks and confirm the rule in your own country.
Do Meta AI Videos Have Watermarks or AI Labels?
Meta labels its AI images, and video provenance is still catching up. Meta's help pages say it will continue to label AI-generated images made with its own products, and Meta said in 2024 that it adds an “Imagined with AI” label to photorealistic images made with Meta AI (Meta Newsroom). Muse Image adds a hidden provenance signal Meta calls Content Seal, but in July 2026 Meta said it planned to extend Content Seal to video soon, so videos didn't carry it at that point.
Posting rules matter more than the watermark. On Facebook, Instagram and Threads, Meta requires people to use its disclosure tool when they post organic content with photorealistic video or realistic-sounding audio that was digitally created or altered, and it may apply penalties if they don't (Meta Newsroom); the visible label is called AI info. YouTube and TikTok have their own rules for realistic synthetic footage, summarized in our AI content labels guide. A cartoon cat lip-syncing a song is clearly unrealistic; a realistic clip of a friend doing something they never did is exactly what disclosure rules target.
Why a Vibe Isn't a Finished Short
A vibe is a single short scene built for a remix feed. A Short or Reel that holds attention for 30 to 60 seconds usually needs a hook in the first second or two, a script with a payoff, a consistent narrator, captions for muted viewing and a visual change every few seconds. Meta AI gives you striking moments, music and lip sync, but not a script, a timeline or captions.
There's also a distribution question. A channel made of AI clips without an original script is a weak bet on YouTube, where the monetization rules exclude repetitive, mass-produced content; our guide to YouTube's AI content monetization policy explains what reviewers look for. Facebook has its own rules for earning from Reels, covered in how to make money on Facebook Reels. Use vibes as moments inside a video with a point, not as the whole video.
Workflow: From a Meta AI Clip to a Finished, Published Short
Step 1, script first. Write 110 to 150 words for a 45 to 60-second Short, with a one-line hook and a payoff. Meta AI can draft it in chat, and the free video script generator and our YouTube script guide help with structure.
Step 2, let Studio build the base video. Paste the script into Vidpal Studio as a Full Script, or start from a topic or an article URL, and choose a 30 to 90-second Short, a voice, a video source (stock footage, AI-generated images in 20 styles shown with camera motion, or a gameplay or oddly satisfying loop) and one of 75 caption presets. A Short costs 1 credit.
Step 3, decide where generated motion belongs. Studio's own Hook Intro can open the Short with a Text → Video or Image → Video clip made with Wan 2.2, for one extra credit charged only when it succeeds, which covers the job you might otherwise hand to Meta AI. Our guide to adding an AI-generated hook clip compares the modes.
Step 4, if you'd rather use your Meta AI clips, save them where your app allows it, cut them together with your own recording in any editor, then upload the edit to Vidpal's AI Editing for captions, silence and filler-word removal, auto zooms and b-roll. AI Editing costs 1 credit at upload and 1 per export. Instagram's own editor is compared in our Instagram Edits vs CapCut guide.
Step 5, publish and label. On Pro and Business, each finished video's Publish panel posts now or schedules up to 90 days ahead to Instagram, YouTube, TikTok and LinkedIn at no credit cost, and the optional Social Scheduler preparation (per-platform copy and one AI thumbnail) costs 1 credit per post. Vidpal doesn't publish to Facebook pages, so post there natively if Facebook is your main channel, and turn on the AI disclosure where the footage is realistic.
For 30 Shorts a month, that's 30 credits on Studio, inside Pro's 40 monthly credits at $39 (pricing). Vidpal also works inside Claude as a connector if you'd rather run it from a chat, as our guide to automating short-form content with Claude and Vidpal shows; a Vidpal app for ChatGPT is in review.
Meta AI vs Copilot vs Gemini vs Grok vs ChatGPT vs Claude for Video
Of the six assistants, Meta AI is the only one that generates video for free in its main app, Gemini and Grok generate it for paying subscribers, Copilot generates only in early access, and ChatGPT and Claude don't generate footage at all. The table uses facts verified in October 2026.
| Assistant | Generates video? | Single clip length | Access as of October 2026 | Best use for creators |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Meta AI | Yes, in the Meta AI and Vibes apps | Not published; video edits use clips up to 10 s | Free, with more generation in Meta One Core ($7.99/mo) and Premium ($19.99/mo); not in every country | Playful clips, animated photos, lip sync, remixes |
| Microsoft Copilot | Stock-and-voice videos for work accounts; generated clips in Frontier only | 4, 8 or 12 s (Frontier clips) | Work or school accounts with Clipchamp enabled; not Personal, Family or Premium | Scripts, workplace explainers, PowerPoint to video |
| Gemini | Yes, with Gemini Omni in the Gemini app | Up to 10 s with audio | Google AI Plus, Pro or Ultra, 18 and older | Cinematic shots, video analysis |
| Grok | Yes, with Grok Imagine | 1 to 15 s with audio | Paid SuperGrok plans or the xAI API | Fast, low-cost realistic shots |
| ChatGPT | No, OpenAI discontinued Sora in 2026 | None | Not applicable | Scripts, images, driving tools through connectors |
| Claude | No video model | None | Claude Motion code-built animations in beta on Team and Enterprise | Scripts, code-built video, connectors such as Vidpal |

Where Vidpal Fits, and Where Meta AI Is the Better Choice
Meta AI wins for playful, personal clips: putting yourself and a friend into a scene, lip-syncing a trending song, restyling a holiday video into anime or joining a remix trend. It's free, it shares straight to Instagram and Facebook, and Vidpal doesn't do likeness insertion, lip sync or remix feeds. Vidpal isn't an AI avatar or talking-presenter tool either.
Vidpal fits when the goal is a narrated, captioned Short or Reel that explains or tells something, built from a topic, script or article and published on a schedule. Studio narration and captions are in English, with captions in 30 languages and voice dubbing in 8 (no lip-sync) through the editor's Translate panel. The Free plan's 4 one-time credits let you try Studio, and Studio exports start on Starter at $19 a month for 15 credits.
To turn your next idea into a captioned Short with a narrator, start free on Vidpal and build it in Studio.
Common Mistakes With Meta AI Video
- Assuming a post stays private: vibes posted to the feed are public, searchable and remixable.
- Uploading long clips to edit: Meta AI caps uploads for editing at 10 seconds.
- Adding friends without asking: Meta's terms require permission from people shown in media you upload.
- Expecting captions or a script: add them in an editor or a video tool.
- Skipping the AI disclosure on realistic clips: Meta requires it for photorealistic video and may apply penalties.
- Treating Muse Video's specs as known: Meta hasn't published its clip length, resolution or price.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can Meta AI make videos for free? Yes. Meta's Vibes page offers free AI video generation in the Meta AI app, on meta.ai and in the Vibes app, with usage limits Meta doesn't publish. Meta One Core at $7.99 a month and Premium at $19.99 a month add more image and video generation.
How long can a Meta AI video be? Meta doesn't publish a length for generated vibes, which are short single clips. Uploaded videos for editing are capped at 10 seconds, and generated clips can be lengthened with Extend. Longer videos have to be edited together from several clips in another app.
What is the Vibes app? Vibes is Meta's feed and app for creating, remixing and sharing short AI videos. It launched inside the Meta AI app in September 2025, and Meta began testing a standalone Vibes app in February 2026, which Google Play now lists as a new Meta AI app.
Does Meta AI use Movie Gen or Muse Video? Meta hasn't said which model powers each feature. Vibes launched with partner models from Midjourney and Black Forest Labs, Movie Gen was a 2024 research model, and Muse Video was previewed in July 2026; Meta's September 2026 subscription announcement mentions videos powered by Muse models.
Can I post Meta AI videos to Instagram and Facebook Reels? Yes. Meta says vibes can be shared to Instagram and Facebook Stories and Reels. If a clip is photorealistic, Meta requires you to disclose it with its AI label tool, and the post then shows an AI info label.
Can teenagers use Meta AI video? Meta's AI terms set a minimum age of 13, or older where local law requires, and teens in Tennessee and Puerto Rico face extra limits on posting and remixing vibes. In September 2026, users reported an in-app message saying teens under 18 can no longer use Vibes, which Meta hasn't explained publicly.
Is Meta AI better than Vidpal for making Shorts? They do different jobs. Meta AI makes short, playful clips with lip sync, likeness and remixing, for free. Vidpal Studio builds a full narrated, captioned Short from a topic, script or article and publishes it to YouTube, Instagram, TikTok and LinkedIn on Pro and Business plans.
