What Is Actually the Same
It helps to be precise about what the assistant does not change. The Model Context Protocol describes a set of tools once, and any client reads the same description. A single sentence describes the whole chain, and the assistant has to hold that plan across several minutes of polling and a couple of confirmation pauses. This is where the two behave differently in practice.
Claude tends to treat the request as a plan and execute it end to end. Ask it to give you an upload link, wait for the file, remove the silences and filler words, set Mozi captions, and export portrait, and it does exactly that sequence, reporting each step and pausing only where a tool is marked as spending credits. When a step returns a status instead of a result, Claude polls the status tool at sensible intervals without being reminded. In long chains it rarely loses track of which video id it is working on.
ChatGPT completes the same chains but is more likely to check in between steps. It may ask whether you want captions before it applies them, or summarize what it has done so far and wait. Some people prefer this; it feels collaborative and gives you more places to steer. Others find that a job that should have taken one yes takes four. The fix is to be explicit in the first message about what you want and that it should proceed without further questions except where a tool spends credits. ChatGPT follows that instruction well.

If you want unattended automation without Claude Code, both vendors' agent frameworks can use a device-code flow to connect to Vidpal from a script without a browser, but that is developer territory rather than a difference between the two chat products.
Planning Content Where You Already Work
The strongest argument for ChatGPT is continuity. If you research topics, draft scripts, and write captions in ChatGPT, adding the connector means the production step happens in the same thread with all of that context. You can go from a pasted article to a reviewed script to an exported video without leaving the conversation, and the model that wrote the caption is the model that schedules the post. For someone who plans and writes content in ChatGPT, use ChatGPT. The value of production in the same thread as planning outweighs the small setup and confirmation differences. Be explicit in your first message that ChatGPT should complete the chain without extra questions, and it will.
For agencies or anyone processing many videos, or anyone comfortable in a terminal, use Claude, specifically Claude Code.
