What ChatGPT cannot do yet is worth stating plainly. It does not edit individual overlay beats inside the Pro Editor, and it does not change export resolution, which follows your plan. Before You Start: What You Need
You need a Vidpal account and a ChatGPT account that can use connectors. A workspace administrator may also need to allow custom connectors on Team and Enterprise accounts.
You do not need an API key, and you should be suspicious of any guide that tells you to paste one. Vidpal's connector authenticates with OAuth inside ChatGPT's connector flow. Step-by-Step: Adding the Vidpal Connector in ChatGPT
Open ChatGPT on the web or in the desktop app and click your profile, then Settings. Find the Connectors section. If you do not see an option to add a custom connector, look for a developer mode or advanced toggle in the same area and enable it; the option to create a connector appears once it is on. Click to add a new connector.
In the form, give the connector a name such as Vidpal, and paste https://app.vidpal.ai/api/mcp as the server URL. Leave the authentication method at its default, which is OAuth; Vidpal publishes the discovery documents that ChatGPT needs to find the sign-in endpoint on its own. Save the connector. ChatGPT will now redirect you to Vidpal, where you sign in if you are not already, and see a consent screen that names the client and the access it is asking for. The last step is to turn the connector on in a conversation. Start a new chat, open the tools or connectors menu in the composer, and enable Vidpal for that chat. If the redirect back to ChatGPT fails, the usual cause is a browser that blocks third-party cookies or a privacy extension that strips the OAuth state parameter. Retry in a normal window, or in a browser profile without extensions, and the flow completes. The connection persists after that; you will not have to sign in again unless you revoke it.
Your First Edit from ChatGPT
Start with a piece of talking-head footage, because that is where the connector saves the most time per minute of source. In a chat with Vidpal enabled, write: give me a Vidpal upload link for a clip I want to edit, and once it is uploaded and transcribed, remove the silences and filler words, set the captions to the Mozi style, and export it portrait. Turning an Article into a Video Without Leaving ChatGPT
Many people already draft social content in ChatGPT, so the most natural use of the connector is finishing that work as a video. Paste a URL and write: turn this article into a 45-second portrait video in Vidpal and show me the script before you confirm it. ChatGPT calls the create-from-URL tool, Vidpal reads the page and writes a script, and ChatGPT shows you the draft. This pause is deliberate. You can ask for a stronger hook, a different tone, or a shorter runtime, and ChatGPT will send those edits back before anything is generated.

How ChatGPT Handles Credits, Confirmations, and Long Jobs
Every Vidpal tool that spends credits or publishes is marked as destructive in the connector's catalog, and its description says what it costs. ChatGPT uses those markings to decide when to ask before acting, so the pattern you will see is a free read, a proposed write with the cost stated, your yes, and then the call. Reads such as listing videos, checking a status, or fetching a script never ask and never cost anything. Long jobs are designed around the fact that a chat cannot wait for minutes on one request. Troubleshooting Common Connection Problems
If ChatGPT says it cannot reach the connector, check the URL first; it must be exactly https://app.vidpal.ai/api/mcp with no trailing slash and no extra path. If the sign-in page loads but the consent step never completes, the browser is likely blocking the redirect; retry without extensions. If the connector shows as connected but tools return an authentication error, the token was probably revoked from the Vidpal side; remove and re-add the connector in ChatGPT to run the sign-in again.
If ChatGPT insists it does not have a tool that you know exists, the connector is usually not enabled for the current conversation. Open the tools menu in the composer and switch Vidpal on for that chat. If a tool returns a not-found message for a video id, the id belongs to another account or was mistyped; the connector deliberately returns not found rather than any detail about content it does not own.
If an export seems stuck, ask ChatGPT to check the video's status rather than to export again. A second export request on an unchanged video is free, but it will simply return the same job. And if a publish call fails with a message about your plan, that is the plan gate doing its job: publishing needs Pro or Business, and the fix is an upgrade, not a retry.
