VidPal needs access to your camera and microphone to record video and audio. If you're seeing a "Permission denied" message or your devices aren't being detected, follow these steps.
Allow permissions when prompted
The first time you try to use your camera or microphone with VidPal, Chrome will show a permission popup asking you to Allow or Block access. Click "Allow" to grant permission. If you see the option "Always allow", select that so you don't get prompted every time.
If you accidentally clicked "Block", don't worry — you can change this in Chrome's settings.
Reset blocked permissions in Chrome
Look for a blocked camera icon in Chrome's address bar (usually a small camera with a red X). Click it, select "Always allow VidPal to access your camera and microphone", and click "Done".
Alternatively, click the lock icon (or tune icon) in the address bar. Find Camera and Microphone in the permissions list and change them from "Block" to "Allow".
You can also go directly to chrome://settings/content/camera and chrome://settings/content/microphone. Make sure the VidPal extension URL is in the Allow list, not the Block list.
Check your system permissions
On macOS, go to System Settings > Privacy & Security > Camera (and Microphone). Make sure Chrome is listed and allowed access.
On Windows, go to Settings > Privacy > Camera (and Microphone). Make sure "Allow desktop apps to access your camera/microphone" is turned on.
Check if another app is using your camera
Your camera can typically only be used by one application at a time. If another app (like Zoom, Teams, or FaceTime) is using your camera, VidPal won't be able to access it. Close the other application and try again.
Test your devices
Open chrome://settings/content/camera to verify Chrome can see your camera. If no devices appear, the issue may be with your hardware drivers rather than VidPal's permissions.
