macOS requires explicit permission for any app to record your screen. If VidPal can't capture your screen, you likely need to grant Chrome this permission in your System Settings.
Grant screen recording permission
Open System Settings (or System Preferences on older macOS versions) and navigate to Privacy & Security > Screen Recording.
Look for Google Chrome in the list. If it's not there, click the + button to add it. Make sure the toggle next to Chrome is turned on. You may need to enter your password or use Touch ID to confirm the change.
After enabling the permission, you must restart Chrome completely. Quit Chrome using Cmd+Q, then reopen it. Simply closing and reopening a tab is not enough — Chrome needs a full restart for the permission change to take effect.
Using Chrome Canary or another Chromium browser?
If you're using Chrome Canary, Brave, Arc, or another Chromium-based browser, you'll need to grant screen recording permission for that specific browser, not just Chrome. The same steps apply — just look for your browser's name in the Screen Recording list.
macOS Ventura and later
On macOS Ventura (13.0) and later, you may see a system prompt asking you to grant permission the first time you try to record. Click "Open System Settings" when prompted and toggle the permission on. If you accidentally dismissed this prompt, follow the manual steps above.
Still not working?
Make sure your macOS version is up to date. Some older macOS versions have known issues with screen recording permissions. Also check that you haven't restricted Chrome's permissions through a Mobile Device Management (MDM) profile, which is common on company-managed Macs.
