The "Memory limit reached" error occurs when your recording exceeds the amount of memory (RAM) available to Chrome. Since VidPal runs entirely in your browser, it's constrained by your device's specifications. When the recording approaches memory limits, it automatically stops to prevent data loss.
Why does this happen?
When recording, video data is temporarily stored in memory before being saved to a file. Long recordings at high quality can quickly fill up the available memory.
The exact limit depends on your computer's total RAM, how many other tabs and applications are running, and the recording quality settings you've chosen.
How to prevent memory issues
Close unnecessary tabs and applications before recording. Each open Chrome tab uses memory that could be allocated to your recording.
Lower your recording quality in VidPal's settings menu. Recording at 720p instead of 1080p uses significantly less memory while still producing good-looking video.
Make sure you have at least 1-2 GB of free disk space available. VidPal requires a minimum of 500 MB of free space to start recording. Also consider restarting your computer before a long recording session to free up RAM.
For very long recordings (over 30 minutes), consider breaking your content into shorter segments. This is often better for viewers too — shorter, focused videos tend to have higher engagement.
Enable the "Stay in page" option
VidPal's "Stay in page" option (found in the settings menu) uses a different recording method that can handle longer recordings more efficiently. Enable this before starting your next recording session.
Use cloud recording (Pro)
With a VidPal Pro subscription, your recordings are processed in the cloud, which removes browser memory limitations entirely. This is the recommended solution for teams that regularly create long-form content.
What about recordings that were cut short?
If your recording stopped due to a memory limit, the portion that was captured before the error should still be available. Check the download prompt or use the "Restore last recording" feature in the three-dot menu.
