If your VidPal recordings have no audio, the issue is usually related to audio source selection or system permissions. Important: audio settings must be configured before you start recording — it's not possible to recover audio after a recording has been made.
Check your microphone selection
In the VidPal popup, make sure your microphone is turned on (the green "On" badge should be visible). Click the microphone dropdown to verify the correct device is selected.
If you're using a USB microphone or headset, make sure it's plugged in before opening the VidPal popup. Devices connected after the popup opens may not be detected until you close and reopen it.
Recording tab audio on Mac
macOS does not allow Chrome extensions to capture system-wide audio directly. However, you can capture audio from a browser tab using one of these methods:
Method 1: Select "Current Tab" recording mode in the VidPal popup. This automatically captures the tab's audio along with the visual content. If using a microphone at the same time, wear headphones to prevent echo.
Method 2: Select "Full Screen" mode. When the Chrome sharing dialog appears, choose "Chrome Tab" (not "Entire Screen"), select the tab you want, and make sure "Also share tab audio" is checked at the bottom before clicking Share.
Recording system audio on Windows and ChromeOS
When recording in Full Screen mode on Windows or ChromeOS, Chrome will show a sharing dialog. Look for the "Share audio" or "Also share system audio" checkbox in the bottom-left corner of the dialog and make sure it's checked before clicking Share.
Check Chrome's tab audio
When recording a specific tab, make sure the tab isn't muted. Look for a speaker icon on the tab — if it has a line through it, click it to unmute.
Microphone volume is too low
Check your system's audio input settings. On macOS, go to System Settings > Sound > Input. On Windows, go to Settings > System > Sound > Input. Make sure your microphone volume isn't set to zero.
Push-to-talk is enabled
If you've enabled Push-to-Talk in VidPal's settings, your microphone is muted by default and only active while you hold the keyboard shortcut. Either disable Push-to-Talk in the settings menu or remember to hold the shortcut while speaking.
